A curved beam with a rectangular cross section is subjected to a moment of 300 inch-pounds. The curved beam has an inner radius of 10 inches and an outer radius of 12 inches. The beam is 0.25 inches thick. The purpose of this project is to use the finite element method and ANSYS to calculate the stresses at radius = 11.5 inches. The finite element method results for the stress distribution will be compared with theoretical results. Agreements and discrepencies between the finite element method and the theoretical solutions will be discussed.
